The work
Real Hair Culture clients
Every transformation below was done in our chair, on real hair, using Wella Supernatural. No editorial shoots, no stock imagery, no enhancement beyond a wash and a blow-dry.
Who this is for
If you’ve been told your hair can’t take colour any more
This is the service we built for you. Four kinds of client come to us for Supernatural more than any other.
You’ve over-processed your hair
Years of bleach, relaxers, box dye, or repeat colouring. Supernatural lets you change tone without adding to the damage. It is non-lightening by design.
Your hair breaks easily
Tannins in Supernatural bind to keratin inside the strand. The colour service itself helps rebuild strength as it works, not afterwards as a separate treatment.

The people in the chair next to you
Two sisters. Both trained. Both on the floor
You’ll be seen by Eva or Gabby every visit. The person consulting on your colour is the person mixing and applying it. There are no juniors at Hair Culture, no assistants, no handoffs.
Eva
Co-founder · Senior colourist
Sassoon Academy trained. Wella Academy trained on Supernatural. Twenty years of London colour work behind her, with a particular reputation for sun-kissed blondes and bespoke brunettes.
Gabby
Co-founder · Senior colourist
Sassoon-trained, Wella Academy trained on Supernatural. Known for multi-dimensional foiling, balayage, and grey blending. The stylist clients return to for natural-looking colour that grows out well.
The services
Three ways we use Supernatural
All three are priced on our standard colour list. Which one suits you is the first thing we’ll talk about in the consultation.
Signature Supernatural
One coat, root to tip. Enhances your existing base, deepens it, or shifts the tone. Brown to mahogany. Brunette to chestnut. Blonde to honey. The cleanest way to colour-drench gently.
Best for clients who want a noticeable colour change without lifting their natural base.
Grey blending
Two-step application. Up to 100% grey blending, with a multi-dimensional finish so regrowth doesn’t show as a line. For clients moving away from heavy permanent colour but not ready to go fully grey.
For women who want their grey present, just not loud.
Blonde toning
For pre-lightened hair. Gentler than a conventional toner, with the strengthening benefit of tannins built in. Pearl, walnut, custom-mixed. Refreshes balayage, highlights, and full-head blondes.
Designed to add tone back without adding damage.
Your appointment
What it actually looks like
From the patch test 48 hours before, to the moment you stand up out of the chair.
48 hours before
Patch test, required for every first Supernatural appointment. The same policy we run for any colour service. We can book this in alongside another visit if you’re already coming in.
In the chair
A proper consultation first. Free, no obligation, and honest. If Supernatural isn’t right for your hair today, we’ll tell you. Sometimes Chromatology is the better choice and we’ll explain why.
Mixing
The colour granules are dissolved in warm water in front of you. Your shade is built around your hair, not chosen from a chart.
Application
A warming sensation on the scalp, a natural scent, no ammonia bite. Most clients are surprised by how different it feels from a conventional colour appointment.
Processing time
Between 40 and 90 minutes depending on your hair, length, and the service. We’ll give you a realistic estimate at the consultation.
Finish
Wash, condition, blow-dry, and honest aftercare advice. We won’t push retail. If there’s a Royal Hair product that genuinely supports your colour at home, we’ll mention it.
Supernatural or Chromatology
Which one suits your hair
Hair Culture is one of very few salons in East London where the same colourists run both systems. We’ll be honest about which one suits the hair you’re sitting in the chair with today.
Choose Supernatural if
Choose Chromatology if
Sometimes the right answer is both, in one appointment. Chromatology to lift, Supernatural to tone. We’ll tell you if that’s where your hair wants to go.
Pricing and booking
On our standard colour list
Supernatural services are priced on Hair Culture’s existing colour price list. No separate Supernatural tier. The consultation is free and carries no obligation to book the service.
“We’ll only recommend Supernatural if it’s right for your hair. Sometimes Chromatology is the better choice and we’ll tell you.”
Aftercare
“Salon work in the chair. Our own Royal Hair line for the bathroom shelf. One standard, applied throughout.”
Every Supernatural service is finished with the right in-salon products to extend the colour. For home, we stock our own Royal Hair line, formulated to support colour-treated, recovering hair.
The science, briefly
How it actually works
Supernatural is built on tannin-rich botanicals, the same compounds responsible for the depth in red wine, dark chocolate, and coffee. Inside the formula, those tannins are packed into colour granules that dissolve in warm water at the start of the appointment.
Once dissolved, the tannins penetrate the hair cuticle and bind to keratin fibres inside the strand. That’s the strengthening effect. While that’s happening, the pigment fills the cortex. That’s the colour. Both happen in the same step.
The formula is vegan, made with 91 to 100% natural-origin ingredients, free of ammonia, and non-lightening. It is designed to enhance, deepen, tone, or blend, never to lift.
Common questions
What clients ask before they book
Is Wella Supernatural vegan?
Yes. The formula is fully vegan and made with 91 to 100% natural-origin ingredients.
Does Supernatural cover grey hair?
Supernatural blends grey rather than covering it opaquely. With a two-step application it gives up to 100% grey blending, with a softer, more multi-dimensional finish than traditional permanent colour. If you want full opaque grey coverage, Chromatology is the better fit.
Can Supernatural lighten my hair?
No. Supernatural is a non-lightening colour. It darkens, deepens, tones, or refreshes existing colour. To go lighter, you’ll need Chromatology or another lightening service.
Does Supernatural damage hair?
The opposite. The tannins in the formula bind to keratin inside the strand and improve its internal structure. It’s designed for clients whose hair can’t take traditional colour, and is one of the only colour services we offer that actively strengthens hair while it colours.
How long does Wella Supernatural last?
Roughly the same as a permanent colour service, four to six weeks depending on your hair, your wash routine, and your products. Using a colour-safe shampoo and conditioner makes a measurable difference. Our Royal Hair range is formulated for this.
Can I use Supernatural on bleached or highlighted hair?
Yes. Blonde toning is one of the three services we offer specifically for pre-lightened hair. Tannins add strength back into the most fragile part of the strand.
Do I need a patch test?
Yes, 48 hours before your first appointment. Same policy as any colour service in the salon.
How is Supernatural different from regular hair dye?
Three things. The chemistry is gentler and plant-based, the formula strengthens hair as it colours, and the appointment itself feels different, warming, naturally scented, no ammonia.
